We have the answer for you – LEGISLATION TRAINING FOR RAA MEMBERS!!!
Dear RAA Members,
Legislation: ?The exercise of the power and function of making rules that have the force of authority by virtue of their promulgation by an official organ of the state.? (Merriam Webster)
The reflexology field is growing and needs support and protection from other organizations that would like to take us under their umbrella. As we grow and need this protection, we need to be trained for this work?what the legislative process is, how and when to act (most of the time it?s a matter of responding quickly!), with whom we should connect, who are our supporters and sponsors in our city/county/state, what language we need to use, how to dress, how to work with law enforcement, etc.
In every situation, we need to be sure exactly what outcome we want. Is it a law, an exemption from the massage law or ordinance, or any other organization that might want to have reflexology under it like cosmetology, or something else?
Christine Issel and Julia Dollinger have created an important interactive distance learning course we may attend from our home computer to help us better understand the legislative process and how to act faster when things happen. And most important this program will give us the opportunity to be proactive instead of reactive.
The program ?Legislation 101? will ?include research, critical thinking, reading and synthesizing bills and laws, and writing testimony.? To be taken in order are two (2) levels with an optional third level.
RAA is willing to support and encourage you to take part in this program. RAA will support ten (10) reflexologists selected by the RAA Board based on interviews of the various applications. Those selected will be reimbursed 25% of the cost of each successfully completed module.
This is a selection process. To be able to receive the 25% reimbursement for each module completed, you will need to:
Fill out a RAA application form (with almost the same questions as in your application for the course). Your application will be carefully reviewed by RAA board members. You may be asked to interview if more information in needed.
Sign an agreement with RAA to serve on the Legislative committee for three (3) years after levels 1 and 2 of the course are completed. This means attending and acting on legislative situations that occur in your area. During this time participation in national matters across the U.S. will require writing position papers.
Upon successful completion of each module, you will submit your request for reimbursement of 25% of the cost of the module.
If you do not complete the contract you will be required to pay back the 25% RAA paid toward your tuition.
I hope you see the need and the importance of this issue. The program starts on October 30th, 2017. All applications are due by October 17TH 2017. See the attached file for more information and the applications.
Thank you for your support and enthusiasm in being a Reflexology legislative investigator!
