RAI was formed and incorporated to bring reflexologists together in 1999 when legislation was introduced into the Illinois General Assembly for licensure of Massage Therapy. At the time there was no exemption for reflexology from massage law. Without an exemption or some other regulations, reflexologists could not practice.
In 2001 exemption from massage law was achieved.
Currently (2021), RAI is working with legislators once again regarding the former exemption which now may become licensure for reflexology in Illinois.

Larry Clemmons, a Chicago Reflexologist, was instrumental in forming RAI. A leader in reflexology, he is a longtime advocate, supporter, teacher and mentor that has advanced our field. Although retired, he will never be forgotten. We are very grateful to him and for him!
Fred Hardwick, a Peoria Reflexologist, was instrumental in achieving our first exemption from massage law. We thank him for that! He recognized early the need for reflexology to be it’s own discipline. We hope to someday fulfill that opportunity.
